What a trip! 1969 was a year which saw the world of popular music blossom. Of all the albums released that year by Island, An Electric Storm by White Noise was by far the most experimental and ground-breaking. Two of the three members of White Noise were not psych-rock longhairs, but respected pioneers of electronic music who worked at the BBC’s legendary Radiophonic Workshop. Initial recording work was undertaken by Delia Derbyshire, David Vorhaus, and Brian Hodgson at the Workshop's Maida Vale studios in the middle of the night, after most staff had gone home, without the Beeb's permission. Their sole LP remains a cult favourite of weirdo psychedelia, early electronic, and sound collage pop - utterly essential.
