Wayne Shorter's JuJu, originally released in 1964, is one of the saxophonist's most celebrated Blue Note recordings and a landmark of post-bop jazz. Recorded with pianist McCoy Tyner, bassist Reggie Workman and drummer Elvin Jones, the album brings together three members of John Coltrane's classic quartet alongside Shorter's increasingly distinctive compositional voice. Featuring six original compositions, including "JuJu," "Deluge" and "House of Jade," the recording combines modal exploration, sophisticated harmonic writing and powerful ensemble interplay. This 2024 Blue Note reissue presents an essential album from Shorter's remarkable mid-1960s catalogue.
