Vieux Farka Touré’s Les Racines is a deeply rooted 2022 album drawing on the traditional Songhai music of northern Mali while retaining his distinctive blues-inflected guitar style. The son of Ali Farka Touré, Vieux works here with musicians including Toumani Diabaté, returning to the acoustic textures and hypnotic desert-blues traditions closely associated with his father’s work. Warm, spacious and beautifully played, it is a strong meeting point between Malian tradition and contemporary African blues.
