Tony Williams’ Foreign Intrigue is a muscular mid-80s Blue Note session led by one of modern jazz’s most influential drummers. Originally released in 1985, the album features Williams alongside trumpeter Wallace Roney, saxophonist Donald Harrison, pianist Mulgrew Miller and bassist Bobby Hutcherson. The music combines post-bop writing with the powerful, highly distinctive rhythmic approach that defined Williams’ later work.
