Tommy Flanagan’s Thelonica is a 1983 tribute to Thelonious Monk, approaching Monk’s compositions with Flanagan’s characteristically elegant touch and subtle rhythmic sense. Joined by bassist George Mraz and drummer Art Taylor, Flanagan interprets familiar Monk material without imitation, bringing his own lyrical, refined approach to the distinctive compositions. The programme includes “Thelonica,” “Off Minor,” “Epistrophy,” “Ruby, My Dear” and “’Round Midnight.”
