The Three Sounds’ Babe’s Blues collects material from the classic period of Gene Harris’s piano trio, with Andrew Simpkins on bass and Bill Dowdy on drums. Rooted in blues, soul jazz and hard-swinging bop, the trio’s sound is built around Harris’s rhythmic, gospel-inflected piano and the group’s remarkably tight interplay. A strong example of the accessible but deeply swinging style that made The Three Sounds a distinctive part of the Blue Note catalogue.
