The Congos' Heart of the Congos, originally released in 1977, is one of the defining albums of roots reggae. Produced by Lee "Scratch" Perry at his legendary Black Ark studio in Jamaica, the record combines the distinctive falsetto of Cedric Myton with the rich vocal harmonies of Roydel Johnson and Perry's atmospheric, dub-influenced production. Featuring classics including "Fisherman," "Congoman" and "La La Bam-Bam," the album remains a landmark of Jamaican music and one of the finest examples of the Black Ark sound.
