Sonic Youth’s Confusion Is Sex captures the band’s early collision of no wave, post-punk and abrasive experimental rock. Originally released in 1983, the album is built around alternate guitar tunings, feedback, dissonance and stark rhythmic repetition, establishing much of the vocabulary the group would develop over the following decade. Highlights include “(She’s in a) Bad Mood,” “Shaking Hell” and a characteristically fractured version of The Stooges’ “I Wanna Be Your Dog.”
