Paul Gonsalves’ Gettin’ Together! is a fine small-group session led by the long-serving Duke Ellington tenor saxophonist. Originally released in 1961, the album places Gonsalves alongside trumpeter Nat Adderley, pianist Wynton Kelly, bassist Sam Jones and drummer Jimmy Cobb. Relaxed, bluesy and swinging, the session gives Gonsalves plenty of room outside the Ellington orchestra and captures the warm, fluid tenor sound for which he was known.
