Oumou Sangaré’s Timbuktu is a powerful 2022 album combining the traditional Wassoulou music of Mali with blues, rock and contemporary production. Recorded between Baltimore and Mali with producer Pascal Danaë, the album places Sangaré’s commanding voice alongside kamele ngoni, electric guitar and richly textured arrangements. Highlights include “Wassulu Don,” “Sarama,” “Degui N’Kelena” and “Kêlê Magni.”
