Nancy Harrow’s Wild Women Don’t Have the Blues is her 1961 debut, an assured vocal jazz album built around blues songs associated with singers including Bessie Smith and Ida Cox. Harrow is backed by an exceptional group featuring Buck Clayton, Dickie Wells, Buddy Tate and Kenny Burrell, with the arrangements leaving plenty of space for both her understated vocals and the band. A distinctive early-1960s Candid session with strong links to both classic blues and mainstream jazz.
