Kenny Dorham’s 2 Horns / 2 Rhythm is a beautifully focused 1957 session pairing Dorham’s trumpet with Ernie Henry’s alto saxophone in a lean, piano-less quartet setting. With Wilbur Ware on bass and G.T. Hogan on drums, the stripped-back instrumentation leaves plenty of space for the two horns and gives the music an unusually open, agile character. Highlights include “Lotus Blossom,” “Soon,” “Is It True?” and “Blue Spring Shuffle.”
