Introducing Johnny Griffin is the tenor saxophonist’s 1956 Blue Note debut, a hard bop session distinguished by Griffin’s fast, muscular playing and commanding tone. Recorded with Wynton Kelly on piano, Curly Russell on bass and Max Roach on drums, it captures Griffin at the beginning of a formidable run as a leader. Highlights include “Mil Dew,” “Chicago Calling” and the extended “The Boy Next Door.”
