Howard McGhee – Maggie’s Back in Town!! (Vinyl LP, Contemporary Records, Germany, 1989) – EX / EX

Howard McGhee’s Maggie’s Back in Town!! is a superb hard bop session from the influential bebop trumpeter, originally recorded in 1961. McGhee’s bright, agile trumpet leads a quartet featuring Phineas Newborn Jr. on piano, Leroy Vinnegar on bass and Shelly Manne on drums. Bluesy, swinging and beautifully direct, it is a strong example of early-60s West Coast modern jazz. This is a 1989 German pressing on Contemporary Records.

Excellent Vinyl LP and Sleeve.
