Presenting Ernie Henry is the alto saxophonist’s 1956 debut as a leader, a fine hard bop session originally recorded for Riverside. Henry is joined by trumpeter Kenny Dorham, pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Wilbur Ware and drummer Art Taylor, giving the album a formidable small-group line-up. Henry’s fluid, Bird-influenced alto sits comfortably alongside Dorham’s lyrical trumpet, with a programme combining originals and standards.
