Chet Baker Quintet - Smokin' (Vinyl LP, Prestige, 1973) - EX/EX

Recorded in New York in August 1965, Smokin’ with the Chet Baker Quintet finds Baker on flugelhorn alongside tenor saxophonist George Coleman, pianist Kirk Lightsey, bassist Herman Wright and drummer Roy Brooks. The session has a tougher, hard-bop character than many of Baker’s better-known recordings, while retaining his characteristically lyrical phrasing. Highlights include ‘Grade “A” Gravy,’ ‘Serenity,’ ‘Fine and Dandy’ and ‘So Easy.
