Charlie Byrd’s Byrd at the Gate captures the guitarist live at the Village Gate in New York, with bassist Keter Betts and drummer Buddy Deppenschmidt. Originally recorded in 1963, the trio moves easily between standards, blues and the Brazilian influence that had become an important part of Byrd’s sound. The intimate setting puts Byrd’s clean, understated guitar playing firmly at the centre of the session.
