Cecil Taylor – Unit Structures (Vinyl LP, Blue Note Records, 2023 Reissue) – Mint / Sealed

Cecil Taylor's Unit Structures, originally released in 1966, is a landmark of avant-garde jazz and one of the most uncompromising recordings in the Blue Note catalogue. Featuring an exceptional ensemble including Eddie Gale on trumpet, Jimmy Lyons on alto saxophone, Ken McIntyre on reeds and Andrew Cyrille on drums, the album explores dense collective improvisation, complex rhythmic structures and Taylor's intensely percussive piano playing. Compositions including "Steps," "Enter, Evening" and "Unit Structure/As of a Now/Section" demonstrate his radical approach to musical form and ensemble interaction. This 2023 Blue Note reissue presents a defining recording of the free jazz movement.
